Sein Körper wird konserviert — und Kirk erwacht auf wunderbare Weise wie-der zum Leben, als die Raumkapsel in ihrer weiten Ellipsenbahn nach Jahrtausenden wieder in die Lufthülle der Erde eindringt.

Dieses Projekt soll allen “Hoomen” wieder die Freiheit im All zurückgeben, für die Kirk vor Äonen gestartet und “gestorben” war — doch das Projekt mißlingt, und Kirk wird gemeinsam mit den anderen Verschwörern zu lebenslänglicher Verbannung auf dem Strafplaneten Kuum verurteilt …
